Jul 30,  · However, as the original MP3 file are lossy and compressed, even if you convert it to a common lossless audio format, its sound quality is still poor. Apart from wasting storage space on your hard drive or mobile device, what's worse is, it will lead to broken sounds, murmurs, distortion and other audio damages during the audio conversion.

Files are either binary or ascii. Common ascii files would be simple text or more complicated formatted text such as PDF or XML. Common binary files are images (jpeg, gif, png) or compressed files. But the file formats can be layered, such as DOCX or PPTX. These are a collection of ascii XML files in a zip archive which makes it a binary file.

Exporting as an OGG or MP3 greatly reduces the size of the exported file, at the expense of some quality loss.. OGG tends to have slightly higher quality than MP3 for the same file size, but not all software players can accept OGG, and most websites hosting audio files expect MP3.; Audacity's default MP3 export bit rate of kbps gives very reasonable sound quality for about 1 MB of space.
